Software update for Daly BMS S-series models with newest software

  • I have an energy storage consisting of two 48V 200Ah LFP packages connected in parallel, each of which is managed by a Daly 16S 150A S series BMS. BMS-ST103-309E hardware version, 11_220211_277E software. It is an extended version of the BMS equipped with a DIO parallel port for parallel module control. It also has UART and CAN/485 ports. As Daly does not mark BMS variants anywhere, I attach photos for easier identification.

I have access to the BMS so far through BT communication modules and the Smart BMS application. Everything works reasonably correctly.

However, I wanted to access the BMS via BT+wifi modules and Comboard modules dedicated to older versions of BMS. And the problems began. BT+wifi modules work only in local BT mode. In remote wifi mode, the Smart BMS app shows the online connection, but no data is displayed.

After contacting Dalyc support, I received a suggestion to update the software to version 103_309_基版本(11_250808_001T).s19. The text 基版本 stands for "base version".

Does anyone have experience with updating such an old BMS, because I heard from Daly that they no longer have the original software. What stable and error-free software can be uploaded to this version of BMS? I ask just in case something goes wrong.

  • Hello,

This is not a Daly S-Series, but most likely a U-Series with a fan. I generally refer to it as the "Classic-Series."

With this type, compatibility with the Daly Bluetooth/WiFi transceiver is generally critical, because specific hardware requirements must be met. Simply updating the firmware is not sufficient. Daly should be aware of this, which is why I'm surprised that they sent you supposedly problem-solving firmware. I don't expect you'll be able to get the BMS working satisfactorily with WiFi.

  • I expressed similar concerns about installing the latest software version because, as they put it, "it was a bit of a stretch for such an old building management system." I wanted to keep the version of the program I already had installed. Their response: "We can't find that file anymore; it's been there too long."

When I asked about security and the possibility of damaging the building automation system after installing the new software, their response was: "Our versions are constantly being improved and there's usually no risk involved." This aroused my suspicions. Hence this forum post.
